A SUPERB LARGE English porcelain plaque painted by THOMAS STEEL, C.1830. He is just about the most famous TOP NOTCH English porcelain painters there is. He is VERY noted for his extremely finely painted fruit and still life. See below for info. This plaque was catalogued by Bonhams as painted by Thomas Steel. In a Knightsbridge, London sale lot 123, 20th May 2015. I cannot get Bonhams site up showing the illustration of it at the moment.

CONDITION:- PERFECT. No chips, cracks and NOT restored.

Size:- Large, 10 3/4 ins by 9ins.

  • Thomas Steel senior worked at Derby and Rockingham before joining Minton in 1832 and remained there until his death in 1850. A marked Rockingham plaque, signed 'Steel Pinx: No 6' shows similar fruit on a remarkably similar table and is illustrated by David Manchip, Artists and Craftsmen of the 19th Century Derby China Factory (2004), colour plate 159, p 153.
