IMPORTANT Meissen Kakiemon LARGE tureen and ORIGINAL COVER, C.1730

Another IMPORTANT Meissen Kakiemon LARGE tureen and ORIGINAL COVER, C.1730. Augustus Rex. It is a tureen made especially for the king Augustus The Strong, so a Royal piece. Full info below. I consider it important, because it has remained in very near PERFECT CONDITION, and is a good size piece at about 12 ins high by 14 ins across by ins high by 10 ins across at it's narrowest point. It is fully marked with AR to the underside of the base. Also, there is an incised former's mark or Dreyers mark of what looks like a a big X or cross. I would like to bet that this could be traced. It is so rare to find a genuine AR piece, as opposed to the hundreds of Dresden 19th century AR marked pieces we see all the time. We only see pieces like this in fine museums, or perhaps a fine expensive German auction or dealer. Where else can anyone find important pieces of Meissen for sale that are a reasonable price?. Those faces at the base of the handles are superbly painted and modelled. Possibly by the early modeller Johann Gottlieb Kirchner (1706– after 1737). The one before the famous J.J.Kandler.

These tureens, vases and the like that stood on the mantelpieces in palaces of the aristocracy This model was provided by Japanese and Chinese porcelain produced especially for export to Europe, of which Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony (1670-1733), had numerous examples in the collection in his Japanese Palace in Dresden. As initially he preferred East Asian porcelain the King not only had numerous pieces from his porcelain palace copied in the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen, but also ordered considerable quantities of porcelain with what was known as chinoiserie décor.

The Augustus-Rex mark on the underside confirms that this vase was intended for the personal use of Augustus the Strong, either for furnishing the king’s porcelain palace or to be given as a royal gift.

CONDITION:- As near perfect as it would be possible to find. Upon extremely close examination, all I can find is a minute almost glaze thickness chip to base rim near one handle, and then a bit of chipping to underside of base that can only be seen when lifted and turned over. There are also typical firing small cracks inside the base. It seems to be ormulu mounted like some of the finest Meissen pieces. That is, the finial is metal or ormulu, and inside, there is a metal ring. I do not understand the function of that ring, as it is not attached to the porcelain. It just sort of sits there inside the lid. Possibly part of the ormulu mounting? Could easily be removed by me before shipping if wanted.
