BEAUTIFUL LARGE vase painted by SAMUEL ALCOCK

A BEAUTIFUL LARGE vase painted by SAMUEL ALCOCK, and signed. Made by Copelands England for the top notch retailer DANIELL of Wigmore Street, London. Alcock is a famous painter.Late 19th century. This vase would have cost an absolute fortune when purchased originally, and I wonder if it was exhibited in one of the great exhibitions. It has been richly gilded, and wonderful jewels on top of the gilding. raised from the surface. The painting carried out in a very watercolor style. The signature at the base of the beautiful lady figure, and hard to photo.

For further examples of Samuel Alcock's work and a discussion of his career and temperament, see Vega Wilkinson, Spode-Copeland-Spode, the Works and its People (2002), pp. 197-198
