An IMPORTANT Bottger / Meissen teapot, C.1725.

AN IMPORTANT and VERY RARE Meissen KPM teapot and cover, C.1723/24. This teapot is just like a dated piece, because we can be so accurate with the date because of this mark KPM and swords, which was only used C.1723/4. It stands for Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur. Also, that large and wonderful seated Chinoiserie figure is very likely to be in the famous book Shultz Codex. A small chip to end of spout, but nothing else except gilt loss. Not bad for 300 years old. An amazing survivor. Even the remarkable delicate spout. Bonhams sold one of these yesterday 7/7/21 lot 10 for £22,750 with all the lovely original gilding but had damage.

As you will see in my photos, it is almost a miniature. Just completely delightful. Without a doubt, one of the very early and rare products of the Meissen manufactory . Teapots of this type have been known since 1711. Shaped for the first time by Johann Jacob Irminger, the elegant, slightly pressed model with a mask at the base of the spout and curved handle found such great and lasting popularity that it was used until the 1720s. The extensive walls on the sides of the teapot offered sufficient painting surface to convincingly demonstrate the artistic skills of the manufactory painters The orientation both in the overall view, and in the details of the painting, and the representation methods were introduced by Höroldt
