A SUPERB FINE Meissen sugar box and cover, C.1730/40. Hand painted by Johann Gregorius Herold with VERY FINE KAUFAUFFAHRTEI harbour scenes around the whole base and ORIGINAL cover. Of BEAUTIFUL silver shape. These harbour scenes sugar boxes are some of the finest most desirable and sought after pieces Only the rarest coffeepots are more desirable.

CONDITION:- SUPERB, WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR RESTORATIONS TO EITHER PIECE, EXCEPT A SMALL RESTORED CHIP TO THE TOP RIM OF THE BASE OF THE BOX. THIS CANNOT BE SEEN WHEN THE LID IS IN PLACE. IT IS MUCH MORE USUAL FOR THE LID TO HAVE DAMAGE OR RESTORATION. THE LID ON THIS IS NEAR PERFECT. EVEN THE GILDING ON BOTH PIECES ARE ALSO IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION. ONLY MINUTE WEAR.

There is no factory mark on this as such. However, over the many years I have been collecting, I have seen a number of early Meissen (pre 1760) pieces that are unmarked, and this piece's quality shout fine early Meissen. I have harbour scenes pieces similar here, that are marked and unmarked to compare. Photos upon request. It also came from a fine German auctioneer originally who sells pre 1760 Meissen regularly. Full details will be given to my customer.
